If the Kings miss the playoffs, their pick (owed to the Celtics) will be in the lottery. That pick would have a slim chance of falling inside the top 4 based on the draft lottery, but if it ends up being #1 overall, it is owed to the Sixers instead.

Well, Stevens has already proven repeatedly that he is a wizard at x's and o's, as well as maximizing the talent out of young guys, role players, and castoffs.

What he has yet to have any real experience with is managing egos, which is generally a huge part of the NBA.

Last year was such a broken season between Hayward and then Kyrie going down - so the team he rolled into the playoffs with was not much different from the teams in the few seasons before that - scrappy, young, coachable, no major free agents to be besides Smart (who is the ultimate team player), etc. It's been all ego free for years.

Now, for literally the first real time in his professional career, Stevens is being challenged on that front. Kyrie has an ego the size of the gym, Tatum/Brown have proven a lot and now are being asked to take a backseat, Morris and Rozier want to get theirs for a big payday this offseason, Hayward has gotten a lot of unearned minutes to help nurse himself back but that is going to rub people the wrong way.

When you step back and look at everyone's individual situations, it's no surprise that this team isn't playing like a team - they're playing like a group of guys all trying to get theirs. Is that on Stevens to fix? 1000% yes. But it's also his first ever experience with this type of roster, so you do have to cut him a bit of slack.

If the Celtics crap out in the playoffs, there will be plenty of chatter about it this offseason. But if Stevens is as talented as we all think, then he should use this year as a giant lesson and be better for it next year. Only time will tell.
